The Green Energy Boom on Automotive Electronics
Date:2008-9-3 9:30:02

South Korea's Kia Lotze is the first car with the environmental-protection driving system on the dashboard and its system through its ECU measure acceleration and RPM. The red for fuel consumption, white for less fuel consumption, green for eco-driving. When the engine speed over 2000, the indicator light will turn red. Kia said, long time being in a Green mode may save up to 30 percent. The new seris Accord of Honda also uses a similar system.

iSuppli's report pointed out that Nissan recently introduced the new environmental protection drive (EcoDrive) function calle EcoPedal, which is the world's first to proactively monitor fuel consumption and encourage more efficient system to accelerate by adjusting the accelerator pedal above the back pressure.

Telematics system to help energy-saving
Under the dual pressure of oil price and emission standard, some manufacturers give new features to the long-range information and communication (Telematics). Car navigation program is no longer a simple search the fastest or shortest routes from the destination, but will take environmental-protection energy-saving route as the important factor to calculate.

By avoiding the uphill, urban roads and stop lights as much as possible, the overall fuel consumption can be reduced up to 5 percent. This is a project recently announced by Audi in which they will take the transport infrastructure into account, within the scope of the maximum to increase fuel efficiency. This feature will be the first to apply the next generation of multimedia interface (MMI) in the navigation system, in the models of A8, A6, and Q5.

iSuppli said in its report, not only taking the transport facilities into account in the routes calculation, Audi's another research project called "Travolution" will test a new environmental-protection driving solution by improving the traffic infrastructure around. Audi and other participants design a new software for optimization of  46 lights in Ingolstadt, Germany, reduce the number of parking spaces. The second part of the project is entitled "driving according to information" and adopts three stop lights equipped with a communication module. These lights show green to the car navigation system, to inform drivers of appropriate speed to avoid a red light.

Telematics system allows vehicle owners to monitor the vehicle's dynamic performance and provide feedback to improve the efficiency of their vehicles. Looking to the future years, Telematics system is entirely possible for manufacturers to innovate powertrain control module once again to improve the efficiency of vehicles.
