Geoinformatics technology has become one of the three major areas of the international frontier science and technology, and its rapid development and huge potential make it become the most important component with most leadership in the information industry.

From July 13 to15, 2008, International Forum on Industrialization of Geoinformatics (short as IFIG) was held in Wuhan Science and Technology Exhibition Center by the State Ministry of Science and Technology High-tech Development and Industrialization Bureau, the State Bureau of Land Surveying and Mapping Survey, and Wuhan Municipal People's Government; organizers were Wuhan Science and Technology Bureau, Wuhan East Lake New Technology Development Zone Management Committee, and Wuhan University.
